Privacy Policy
Effective June 29, 2026 · Sweet Other (“we,” “us,” “our”)
Sweet Other is an early-access service that helps verified, relationship-minded people meet others nearby. A neighborhood only opens once enough people there have joined. This policy explains what we collect while you’re on the waitlist and as we open your area, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
We try to collect as little as possible. From you directly:
- Email address — so we can confirm your spot and tell you when your area opens. If you’ve given consent (see the banner on our site), we save your email the moment you enter it, so that if you don’t finish signing up we can send you one gentle reminder.
- Your area — the neighborhood name or ZIP code you give us, and optionally one or two other areas you spend time in. We store an approximate location (a ZIP-code center point or your city), not a precise GPS pin.
- About you and who you’re looking for — your age and the age range you’re open to; your gender identity, in your own words if you prefer; who you’d like to meet (women, men, and/or nonbinary people); and, if you set them, your height and the height range you’re open to. This is used to make introductions. You also choose which groups of seekers can be shown your profile.
- Optional profile details — cultural background, religion, kids, smoking, drinking, cannabis, politics, and education, if you choose to share them. These are entirely optional and member-provided, shown only to your matches, and used only to find people who want what you want. You can clear any of them at any time on your profile page, which unsets them.
- Optional preferences — “nice-to-have,” “must-have,” and “dealbreaker” traits you tap (for example, wants kids, has pets). These are optional and help us find genuinely compatible introductions.
- Referral codes — if you arrived through someone’s invite link, we record which code so we can credit them.
Collected automatically when you visit:
- Approximate location from your connection — our hosting provider tells us the city/region your visit appears to come from, which we use to show local demand. We don’t store your precise coordinates.
- Basic technical data — IP address, device/browser type, and similar information needed to run the site and prevent abuse.
- Cookies and local storage — see the Cookies section.
2. How we use your information
- Run the waitlist, gauge how much interest there is in each area, and decide when to open one.
- Make and suggest compatible introductions when your area opens.
- Email you about your spot, your area opening, and (only if you consented) one reminder if you don’t finish signing up.
- Keep the service safe — verify that emails are real, block bots and spam, and prevent one person from registering many times.
- Improve Sweet Other and understand demand. We do not sell your data and we do not show third-party ads.
3. Why we’re allowed to use it (legal bases)
Where laws such as the EU/UK GDPR apply, we rely on: taking steps you asked for before/under a contract (putting you on the list and matching you); our legitimate interests in running and securing the service and understanding demand; and your consent for things like abandoned-signup reminders and non-essential cookies, which you can withdraw at any time.
4. Sensitive information
We deliberately do not ask for religion, health, ethnicity, political views, or sexual orientation. “Who you’re seeking” tells us the gender of partner to introduce — it’s used only for matching, and we don’t use it to infer or record your sexual orientation. If we ever add a sensitive field (for example, a faith preference), it will be clearly optional and collected with your explicit opt-in consent, with its own explanation.
5. Cookies, local storage & biometrics
Cookies and local storage. We use a small amount of browser storage to run the site and to remember your privacy choice. With your consent (“Accept all”), we also remember what you’ve started entering — like your email — so we can send the single reminder described above. Choosing “Essential only” turns that off. You can change your mind any time by clearing your browser storage for this site.
Biometrics. Sweet Other does not currently collect biometric identifiers such as face or voice prints. Some features we’re building (for example, audio meetups) involve voice in real time, but we do not create biometric templates from them today. If we ever introduce a feature that does, we’ll give you a specific notice and obtain the consent required by applicable law (such as the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act) before collecting anything.
6. Who we share information with
We share only with service providers who help us operate, and only what they need:
- Hosting & infrastructure (Cloudflare) — to serve the site and store data.
- Email delivery (our email provider) — to send confirmation and reminder emails.
- Bot protection (Cloudflare Turnstile) — to tell humans from bots.
- Payments — if and when optional purchases (such as a Founding Kit) go live, a payment processor will handle the transaction; we don’t store full card numbers.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and Sweet Other. We never sell your personal information.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your information while you’re on the waitlist or an active member. If you started a signup but didn’t finish, we keep your email only long enough to send the one reminder, then delete it if you don’t continue. You can ask us to delete your information at any time (see below).
8. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and California’s CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your information, to object to or restrict certain uses, and to withdraw consent. You will not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To make a request, email privacy@sweetother.com. You can unsubscribe from emails using the link in any message.
9. Security & children
We protect your information with encryption in transit and access controls, and we collect as little as we can. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security. Sweet Other is only for adults — you must be 18 or older to use it, and we don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
10. Where your information is processed
Sweet Other is operated from the United States, and your information may be processed there and in other countries where our providers operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
11. Changes & contact
If we make material changes, we’ll update this page and the effective date above. Questions or requests: privacy@sweetother.com · Terms of Service.
